Historic Storms
April 6, 2026
Friday afternoon, at 4:32 pm, the UPS truck pulled up outside our house. Kutter raced to the door, barking vociferously. (The UPS truck is his more unwelcome vehicle; not ours.)
The driver left two big boxes of books at the door.
Historic Storms of Martha’s Vineyard has arrived, and we’re off on another book tour.
The actual release date is not until April 21 when I offer my first book talk at Woodside Village, the Island Elderly Housing complex near the high school. I’m looking forward to that event as one of the residents witnessed the wrath of the ’38 Hurricane and shared his memories with me.
From that first scheduled event I have book talks planned at all six Island libraries over the next few months. On June 20 I promote Historic Storms on the porch of Edgartown Books, on Main Street, Edgartown.
Furthermore, I will be at the Artisans Fair at the Ag Hall over Memorial Day weekend and Harborfest in Oak Bluffs in June, plus Tisbury Street Fair on July 8. And I’m sure Bunch of Grapes will carry my book as well.
I run an Island-wide tour, so everyone has an opportunity to hear my tales and buy my books.
Part of my tour is to promote the book with both Vineyard newspapers, the Vineyard Gazette and the Martha’s Vineyard Times. Over the years they have been very generous in reviewing my work. And I will arrange more book talks over the summer whenever the opportunity arises.
I opened the boxes of books that were delivered on Friday. Historic Storms is available right now at tomdresser.com for those who can’t wait for a book talk. (Or, may I suggest, buy the book now, read it, then question me at one of the library book talks.)
Nothing like a new book to get the season underway.
