Shoe thing
April 10, 2026
In 2010 we signed up to join the YMCA after the first of the new year. I had never joined a gym, so I wanted to do what was right and went out and bought a new pair of sneakers. Nothing fancy.
I wore them three days a week for ten years when Joyce and I were in a class called Body Pump. The sneakers helped me get a grip and get into shape, sort of. On three other days each week I stepped into my spinning shoes; they fit tightly into the grip of the spinning pedals as I wheeled my way to nowhere.
We left the Y when Covid closed everything in 2020.
In 2022 Kutter joined our family, with a requisite daily walk, which necessitated good footwear. The sneakers were a good fit for a while, but last year I graduated to L. L. Bean walking shoes. They fit snuggly but are a pain to get into and out of. I have to use a shoehorn to step into them and a paint-can opener to loosen the laces.
And now Joycie got me a pair of Skechers. They fit my feet snugly. They are easy to slide into and out of. My friend Erik defined them as “the boomer shoe” for their comfort. I’m sold.
I wore them at a fancy event in New York City. I wear them to walk Kutter. I don’t mind wearing them around the house instead of slippers. Who could ask for anything more?
I’m sold.
